Shannon Whitfield | Director | Senior Adviser (WA)
Professional Career Background.
Shannon heads the Strategic Financial Planning West Australian office.
Shannon has worked in the financial services industry since 2008, having come from a Sports Management / Marketing background. After spending 3 years in the UK where he worked as a Brand Manager for Octagon, one of the World’s largest Sports Marketing companies, Shannon worked in a variety of Management roles before deciding to embark on a Financial Planning career.
It was his desire to be able to provide financial advice to people so they would be able to achieve their lifestyle goals that attracted Shannon to the role of a Financial Planner.
Being extremely relationship focussed, and process driven, skill sets integral to the role of a Financial Planner, Shannon quickly built rapport with his clients at Westpac. This ability to build solid, lasting relationships with clients and colleagues alike, was acknowledged when Shannon received both the; Westpac National Planner of the Year, and Rookie of the Year awards in the same year. To this day, Shannon is the only Westpac Adviser to have achieved this feat.
At the beginning of 2011, with the birth of his first child imminent, and with a wife wishing to raise their family close to her own parents, Shannon and his family moved from Victoria to WA, where he continued to work for Westpac’s Premium Financial Services division, an area dedicated to providing advice to Westpac’s high net worth clientele.
In 2014, Shannon left Westpac, and joined forces with long time friend Jason Sourasis, to set up the West Australian arm of Strategic Financial Group Australia (SFGA). SFGA offer clients a full suite of services, from renowned industry leaders in the banking & finance, accounting, legal & management fields.
As a Financial Planner, Shannon specialises in:
Wealth Creation strategies,
Debt Reduction strategies,
Wealth Protection Insurance,
and Asset allocation
Shannon is a family man first and foremost, with a wife and two beautiful young children. He also enjoys; spending time with friends, travelling and sport.
Tell me a bit about yourself...
What are your interests outside of work?
My greatest passion in life is my young family, which includes my wife, my son (almost 3 years), and my beautiful daughter (10 months). It is with my family that I like to spend the majority of my spare time.
I am also an avid Carlton supporter, so I love to sit down and watch the Mighty Blues over the weekend. My son has been a Carlton member since birth, and one of my biggest challenges, and greatest accomplishments will be to ensure he remains a True Blue despite the inevitable peer group pressure to become either an Eagle or a Docker!
What is your favourite holiday destination?
Having lived in the UK for 3 years, I absolutely love London as a city and could never get sick of going there. Italy, Spain and Turkey would also be in my top 5 destinations. For pure relaxation, however, which has become more of a priority as I get older, it is very difficult to go past Bali, especially seeing as though it is only a 3 hour flight from Perth, but feels a million miles away.
What is your favourite book?
I rarely get to read purely for enjoyment, and one reason for that is when I pick a book up, I find it impossible to put it down until it is finished! The most captivating book I have read would have to be Shantaram by Gregory David Roberts.
If you could invite 6 people for dinner, living or historical, who would they be?
Of course my Wife would be at the top of the list. We would, however, get a babysitter to look after the kids for a night! Just to have a night alone in her company would do…the other 5 people can wait!
What do you enjoy most about working for Strategic Financial Group?
I love the idea of working alongside Jason, who I have the utmost respect for as a Financial Planner, and as a person. I love the idea of being able to run a business the way it should be run – that is to put existing clients at the centre of everything we do and to take priority over any other area of our work. I love being able to look my clients in the eye and tell them with confidence that I will be their Financial Planner for the next 30 years.
