Jason has worked in the financial services industry since 1999 after completing a Bachelor of Economics, majoring in Banking and Finance. In 2001 Jason returned from a 2 year working stint in the UK and joined Westpac Bank, where he quickly forged a reputation as one of Australia's premier financial advisors.
In 2006, Jason left Westpac to start Strategic Financial Planning Australia (Strategic FPA), where he was able to build a niche business specialising in financial advice to wholesale and sophisticated investors. Jason's expert knowledge of investment markets, asset management, investment structures and legislation, complimented his ability to explain complex matters in a straight forward and relaxed manner.
Jason has been able to consistently deliver Strategic clients above average positive returns, in the most challenging investment period in history. This has resulted in a significant increase in demand for his advisory services and consequently, a period of rapid business growth for Strategic, fueled by referrals from satisfied clients.
In 2009, Strategic FPA acquired Kerry Sourasis' financial planning business, which added more than 35 years worth of wisdom and experience to Strategic's young and energetic team.
In 2010, Jason formed and became the managing director of Strategic Financial Group Australia (SFGA) in order to offer clients a full suite of services, from renowned industry leaders in the banking & finance, accounting, legal & management fields.
Apart from his passion and hands on role at Strategic Financial Group Australia, Jason is an owner of Albert Street Food & Wine, one of Melbourne's premier restaurants; he is on the board of Liptember, a charity raising awareness for gender specific mental health issues for women and is equally as passionate about travelling, sport, food, family and friends.
What are your interests outside of work?
As most of my friends will tell you, I am a sports tragic, in particular when it comes to the AFL (North Melbourne supporter) & Football (Melbourne Heart, Arsenal & Barcelona Supporter). Outside of watching and playing sport, I am an avid traveller and love going to new places and experiencing different cultures. As an advisor to several current and ex athletes, it’s not uncommon for me to follow the teams I support around Australia and around the world, allowing me to combine my passions, of financial advising, sports and travelling. When I get the chance, I also don’t mind cooking, cycling, running and most of all socialising.
What is your favourite holiday destination? We are lucky enough to have properties on the Greek Island of Kos and the south of France, where the the lifestyle is very hard to beat. As all clients know, I’ll try to end up in Europe for at least a month at the end of every financial year to recharge the batteries (no use working hard and creating wealth, if you’re not going to enjoy it!).
What is your favourite book? Jessica by Bryce Courtney
If you could invite 6 people for dinner, living or historical, who would they be? Barack Obama (to hear the views of the most powerful man in the world), Warren Buffet (to talk money), Lucas Neill (I’m sure he’d have lots of stories), Michael Jackson (he can teach us some dance moves and sing for us), Angelina Jolie (to ask about her charity work of course!) and last but not least I’d invite my mother Kerry Sourasis (Inheritance purposes! (only joking) she is great company and a great cook!).
What do you enjoy most about working at Strategic Financial Group? We have built a great team of very experienced professionals who are industry leaders, yet we also have a good blend of youth and energy that is willing to learn and grow together. Strategic is simply a fun place to be, yet we have the confidence of knowing we are industry leaders and the majority of our new clients are referred by existing clients. To watch this mix of youth & experience, working together in a fun, family based environment to deliver for our valued clients gives me a great sense of satisfaction.
